Hello! I do not know how so many people are amazing at blogging many posts but I am just trying to hold on to this wild ride of online business. :) I am currently working on two Mummy Wreath orders and loving it! I just glittered the hands and have had to substitute in skull heads to as I ran out of supplies. But here is a secret...I like it better with a mixture of heads and hands! I am going to have to admit, I wish my skeleton hands came pre-glittered....I have spilled, accidentally blew, and found more glitter in my house and on myself this year than I have ever before! :) Still, my favorite part is when the customer sends me the message that they absolutely love what I worked so hard one. This is probably my favorite Autumn Wreath to make. I get giddy when I see the golden curls filling the wreath, it is such a beautiful treasure. I made an 18" wreath of this for a customer and had it hanging on my wall while I built the shipping box and I tell you what, it was breathtaking in that size! Time for me to make one for myself for sure this year.

I went to a cemetery to photograph these wreaths and I had such an experience! As I was hanging up this Mummy Wreath I heard a sound like metal moving inside this tomb!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhh! I hurried and finished the pictures. Then as we were leaving I opened my sons door to get him inside and I turned my back to the car and the door shut all by itself! I kept opening it and it kept shutting when I turned around. Oooooo! Chills! Ha ha ha, it was way fun!

I finished my "Mummy's Tomb Wreath" and my "Gourd Festival Wreath". I had so much fun with glitter and glue stuck all over me! Ha ha! I revised them with glitter on one and extra moss on the other. Mummy Wreath

I have a beautiful wreath called "Mummy's Tomb". I feel it is missing some pizazz so... I am deciding to glitter the skeleton hands in tones of black and grey then hang it by a grey/brown/black bow. I wish I new what color to call it but I can't think. :) I want the wreath to create the vibe that this centerpiece does. What do you think? Just study the pumpkins with those silver grey leaves...I love it!

So in my last post I was thinking of replacing Gourd Festival and here is my little idea...Bright green moss with orange glittered pumpkins... love it! Here was the pic that inspired me and I can't remember where I found it or I would give credit. Brilliant little piece of fun!

After burning my fingers at least 100 times I accomplished two wreaths! I finished my gourd wreath but I think it is not replacing the Gourd Festival because I came up with a new idea for that, glitter pumpkins over bright green moss. :) Now I did however finish Vintage Harvest and I love it. Now this photo was taken at 11pm at night with bad lighting, but all the better for my real photo shoot, I am sure it will turn out beautiful! I am thinking hung on an old white door or maybe an old wood fence...hmm. Now the pumpkins are yarn and then the wreath is moss and I think I will tie it all up with a beautiful burnt orange silk ribbon, lovely! Velvet ribbon would be better but it's hard to find. :(

Now I did this cute wreath in a smaller size for a wedding party photo shoot. I will share photos later. But I am having a hard time naming it...hmmm I thought "Barefoot Autumn"...but it's cold weather so...I thought "Darling Denim" but now I hate it cause my brain is shutting off for the night. Who knows, I am sure I will be inspired tomorrow. I love the rhinestones against the velvet fall leaves, so beautiful!

Now I am off to vacuum up moss leftovers and soak my burnt hands in cool water. Night!

PS My cute hubby just helped me decide on a name!

Fall Clean Up

Alright, the time has come for new Autumn Wreaths and yes, I am going to have to start this month. I wonder if I am the only one who needs to be in the mood for Autumn to create things according to that season. So I am hoping I can find inspiring things for fall in the middle of July. :) Tomorrow is my first day of creating, I have 20 wreaths to make and photograph by August! Here is what inspired the wreath I am making. I created a gourd wreath a year or two ago and it just wasn't hitting the spot for me, don't get me wrong it s beautiful but it didn't say Melissa. So, here is an idea on the revision of the original idea. I am going to have gourds around the wreath yes but instead of paper covering them I will do yarn, and I think a touch of moss somewhere...I am so excited to create it! Wish me luck on getting 20 done this soon! I am excited!

I have been hard at work planning and creating better photographs and more wreath designs. I love that this is a slow process. I am learning so much. A couple years ago I had no idea I would have a love affair with letterpress printing and now I am going to do my business card in letterpress! So, I am working on saving up the money to do that along with some marketing pamphlets to hand out to select homes in my area. :) I have found a few shops I am going to test out my product on...doubtful but it's worth a chance. I love that no matter what risks I take, I will not loose I will only gain knowledge! SO, I re-created my Skeleton Bow Tie Wreath http://www.etsy.com/listing/33740365/skeleton-bow-tie-wreath?ref=sr_gallery_1&ga_search_submit=&ga_search_query=skeleton+bow+tie+wreath&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_facet=handmade and took some beautiful photographs of it. I found a wonderful spooky wooden fence and knew I had to go back and photograph a wreath on it. I hope you like it! Then I decided my sweet owl wreath needed a boost of orange lace and I added an orange bow tie to him! I am starting a Beatrix wreath and have begun my hand stiched bunnies. Soooo sweet. They are about the size of my thumb. I adore them!

What a Hoot and It's A Wrap

I finally finished my weirdest wreath. I feel like asbestos is going to fall off it. Ha ha ha! I don't know how I feel about this wreath yet. It reminds me of my grandparents home with the velvet floral couches, brass figurines, and mushroom clocks. Ha ha! Gotta love it though if you are in to vintage 70's. :)

This is a bad picture yes but the kids are asleep and I don't want to wake them up just to get a good photo. This wreath was fun but I stabbed my finger with a pin more times making this than any other wreath. I can't say I love the colors but it could be done in any color which is nice. This one is kinda meant for the month of November. I love how the rolled paper looks like scrolls.

Sweet Cuppin' Cakes Wreath $120.00

I hand cut the cupcakes and hand glittered them! I am dying, I love this wreath so much. A sweet someone has ordered this for her cupcake themed kitchen, sure puts me in the mood to eat. :) I love the color scheme and the fact that the whole thing sparkles, it came out just as I imagined. True love! You have to know I have been working on this wreath for probably almost a year now. I started it while I was on vacation from my shop and since I was on vacation I was very slow and took my time to enjoy it. It was worth the wait. Do you know what my favorite part is? My husband named the wreath for me! Forever I couldn't come up with a name and he turns around and says, "Sweet Cuppin' Cakes." Gotta love that man of mine. :)

Tillie's Tulips Wreath $120.00

This wreath was hard! Let me just throw that out there. I hand made tulips out of fabric and that was time consuming. But I was determined to see how this would turn out. Well, what do you think? I like it but as for right now I want to run away from it. Ha ha! It took me ALL DAY to make! It was fun though, my two little boys helped by handing me small blades of grass and asking what a hot glue gun did and if it would burn off their arms. Oh I love little boys minds. I will always think of the cartoon Rugrats whenever I look at this. Ha ha! It was playing in the background as I crafted. I do love the end result, though I wish I could find a better substitute for grass than plastic... any ideas? Oh well, I adore the tulips and the color scheme, and those ribbons are to die for. Sigh, a love hate relationship with this one. :)

Cranberry Mistletoe $120.00

Oh me oh my! How I adore this wreath. I am making me some for every window in my house! Are you shocked they look like real cranberries? I am dying! I experimented one day, I found an old bag of wooden beads and an old cast out dollar store wreath form. After so long I realized this was looking cool so of course I went out and got a nice new wreath form, new bags of beads, and hurried home to craft. After I had applied all the beads I realized I had no idea how I would get them red, so I found some paint buried in my drawer and went at it. I LOVE the end result, it happens to look so real because wooden beads are never the same shade, therefore making it so much more organic-like. Of course the whole time I envisioned a silk dupoini green ribbon hanging it. There it is, a true treasure.

I have yet to take them to my special spot to photograph them. I have to wait for the snow to stop. :( I guess for now my front door will do. Get excited for the upcoming photo shoot!

Making a Comeback

So my sweet loyal customers keep asking when I will come back. Sigh, I guess every vacation must end. I am just needing to photograph my latest creations and then I will give my shop a facelift and open up. Maybe let's say March 1st. :) Look forward to it! Now here are my latest ideas and inspirations.

I am going to make a tulip wreath inspired by this photo. The idea of a basket full of tulips or a wreath full of tulips is divine! I found some beautiful grasses and have found a way to handmake tulips..tee hee! I also am experimenting with a basket weave out of raffia to cover the wreath in...hmm we will see. The ribbons I found are delicious!

See! So Easter! I am way excited.

Here is one of my favorite ideas yet. Vintage handkerchief wreath. Look at all my great granny's handkerchiefs I have collected! Some are from when I was married, others from antique shops, and one is Belgian lace. Oooh!

Here is the concept roughly thrown together, I think hung by a silk dupoini ribbon will finish this off. Truly elegant! Let me know what you think, I am going to start on these wreaths!

This one took quite a while but so worth it. I can't wait for the reveal! It is Fall inspired and very eclectic which is my favorite way to design. :)

Need I say more? Look at this sweet owl! I haven't named him because then I could never sell him, (I have a huge brass owl vase in my living room that I have named Herbert and I LOVE him! Ha ha ha) This is a 70's inspired wreath..oh so groovy.

My Head is Buzzing

I have this idea for an alphabet wreath. Yes you alphabet maniacs out there! I am seeing fabrics mixed with different styles of printed letters. Now here comes the challenging part...finding a way to make letters printed on paper three dimensional....hmmm pictures to come soon. :)

I am drooling over my new cupcake wreath! I am still trying to find a frosting like wrap to go on the wreath....hard to find. I am hand glittering beautiful drawings of cupcakes in lovely soft purples, pinks, yellows, blues, and greens. Some are hidden in little silver cupcake holders...very sweet! I look forward to finishing.

Now this wonderful wreath was very inspired from the 70's and my Grandparents mushroom clock in their kitchen. Ha ha ha! This wreath has a wrap of 70's plush with a statue of the sweetest owl surrounded by lace and daisies! It is going to be groovy! Look forward to my finished wreaths in their upcoming photo shoots!

The Haunting of Margy Photo Shoot

So I tried out a photo shoot for this lovely Fall wreath in my mother's backyard....it turned out a bit gold colored. Shoot darn I am going to have to drive all the way back up North to redo the pictures. Oh well, did I tell you I found the perfect place to take pics of my wreaths? A run down church with a run down white barn and old cottage and sheds with worn white paint. I love this place, I would buy it and fix it up in a heartbeat if it wasn't next to a Tire Shop... boo! Wreath Creating

Okay I am back from vacationing from blogging! Yahoo! But I am about to vacation mode my Etsy shop so I can relax this holiday season. :) But I will still create wreaths for fun and post inspiring things on here. :) It will become my wreath design book. Thought processes and inspiring photos.

Now I must tell you that I have three new wreaths in my shop and they are to die for!!!!!!!!!! SO enjoy these photos and visit often!

"She Sells Seashells Wreath" $120.00

This wreath has been a dream come true. I have been collecting seashells from the Californian coast ever since I was married 7 years ago. I knew one day they would come in handy and look at what I did?! Ahhhh! I adore it. It's like the wreath is a ship and the seashells are it's barnacles. Ha ha ha! I am thinking of adding a sweet peach colored ribbon to the sea blue...what do you think? My inspiration for this wreath was for sure the cape cod area. I have never been but I do tend to watch a lot of movies...tee hee. I kept thinking how great it would look in Sleepless In Seattle or in Dan in real Life. So whether you are and east coaster or west coaster this wreath is for you. It is super heavy so shipping kinda bites....sorry. Oh! Along the lines of inspiration I wanted to tell you that the idea I had was that I wanted the seashells to have just landed on the wreath in a heap, but as I kept creating I found each seashell seemed to be made to rest against the other, as if they were cozying down for the tide. The wonderful netting ribbon I found to wrap the wreath in was truly heaven sent! :)

Hey! What's going on? Ha ha ha! That is my cousin Melissa diligently helping me out by pounding a screw into this old wood with a rock....uh Melissa it's not working. :) Wait, her huge biceps came through for me and it managed to hold the wreaths. Why I didn't bring a hammer and nails to my photo shoot I have no idea. :) Now let me expound on my dear cousin. She has helped me in so many ways with my discovery of opening a shop. She kept telling me to just drop the fear and do it. Now look at me? Every holiday my wreaths make it to the front page of Etsy, numerous websites, blogs, TV, and hopefully magazines. :) Melissa helps me feel good about myself as a creator and let's me know how special my talent is. She is there for me when I am too overwhelmed just to make me laugh, she pounds screws in with rocks, she even tells my kids to give me a break every now and then. Truly she is generous and wonderful! I love her so much!

"Giggling Gnome Wreath" $120.00

This wreath I have been looking forward to for a long time. I designed it in my head last year when I researched gnome wreaths....there were none! There still aren't any! Mine is the first tactful one. So snotty of me, I know. :) I use a hand cut paper gnome but I recently went to my local thrift store (love those places!) and found three little resin gnomes to die for! So I will have to reserve those three for really special customers.

The hand spun German Mushrooms are the perfect touch against that mossy green I started out by having them all around the wreath and realized that it looked well... ridiculous so I had to move them around until I realized that I wanted it to look like they had just sprung up out of the wreath. It usually takes me a few tries until I get the perfect look, and trust me I don;t have the perfect look on all my wreaths. I think most of my Christmas ones need tweaking. :) But that is for another day...sigh.

"The Haunting of Margy" $120.00

This wreath was inspired by one of my loyal customers. She loved my Yo Yo Wreaths so much that she decided she needed Halloween wreaths..of course! :) Well, I thought and thought and I saw this wonderful picture online form a Martha Stewart Magazine where they had shaped their mashed potatoes into ghosts with sweet potato pumpkins...hello! I thought of Margy because she seems to value the home, harvest, and beauty. The pattern on the fabric sophisticates it. I have made a dear friend from this order who truly values handmade. I adore the people I meet through Etsy, this was the best thing I have done for my talents. :) Thanks Margy! Someday I hope to meet all those friends I make, wouldn't that be grand?

Strawberry Progress

I started the wreath!!!!! I am finally done making the strawberries. Phew that took a while. I guess it will be easier one day when the kids are in school and I can get my housework done early. :) I decide to pin the doll to the wreath so as to preserve her if ever she needed it. She fit very nicely up there. :)

I began to pin the berries on and I just fell in love with the color scheme! I hot glued the other figurines which will be fine for hot glue pops off id needed. I love how the wreath is looking!

Now for some finishing touches. Hand punched paper blossoms and the sweet gal wanted a birthday sign as it is a present. So soon to come will be glittered words and I think I will add a touch of glitter on the small figurines. Now I need to add a bow at the top and we are ready to ship it!

Life is like a bowl of Strawberries....

Here are the beginnings of the adorable hand sewn strawberries. I will admit it isn't that fun to make them but the outcome is so worth it! Look at them! They are even more adorable when the little green cap is on top! I am so excited every time I work on this wreath because i can invision what it will look like finished and it is going to be pretty incredible! Isn't it wonderful what people can inspire? My customer just showed me a picture and said Strawberry Shortcake and my brain went crazy! :) Well I had better get back to stuffing these little beauties. Good thing I can watch a good movie like Raiders of The Lost Arc. I do have to mention that my little brother came over to visit today and he helped me stuff almost all of these! Wasn't that kind? A good chit chat can make the task go by faster. Now I will always think of my brother and Indiana Jones when I make these strawberries again! Ha ha ha!

I have been asked by an adorable woman to create a Vintage Strawberry Shortcake Wreath! I am thrilled! Here is the stack of inspiration from which I draw my design for the strawberries. It will look a lot like my "Summer's Pick Wreath", but with vintage figurines, glitter, and blossoms.

OKay, so far you can see I have sewn the strawberries together so they are ready to stuff. I thought they looked fun draped over my sewing machine from 1980. :) And yes I love it!!!!

I have punched out the blossoms and am wondering if they should be assembled with brads or pins with a colorful head.....hmmmm.

Lastly are the wonderful vintage figurines. And yes, that is one of the original Strawberry Shortcake dolls. The smell of her face brings back so many memories of me brushing her hair. Ahhh. ANd if some of you didn't know that is Huckleberry Pie (the blue one). But wasn't Strawberry Shortcake such an icon in the 80's? I mean hello, she even skateboards. Very cool. Wish me luck! Spring Cleaning

I am currently trying to figure out this blogging world and will be revamping a few things on here. If anyone has suggestions I am happy to listen! :) I am also very excited to post a special order I am working on. It just might be the cutest wreath ever!!!!! Just think Strawberries! Look forward to that. And again, thanks you for any input. Someday I will be as good at blogging as I am at creating. :) Meanwhile, do enjoy my favorite Spring wreath, "Easter Parade"

I love this wreath, I used scraps of fabric, ribbon, and pressed flowers. I love St. Patrick's Day but I do hate all the tacky decor out there so I am planning on creating a couple more wreaths of quality home decor taste so your St. Patrick's Day can be a tasteful one. :) Now the only problem is trying to get myself to create wreaths for holidays BEFORE the holidays happen. I usually don't get creative inspiration until the holiday has passed. Oh well, there is always next year. :)

I have been asked by my soon to be sister-in-law to create two wreaths for her wedding. They will hang on the two tall doors as you enter their reception room. Her dress has pleated silk and her cake has pleated fondant. So we are going with the theme here and creating pleated folds of satin on the wreath. Then she taught me and my brother how to melt synthetic fabrics into flowers we can pin and incrust with crystals and pearls. Then we will hide some crystals and pearls amongst the folds of satin and hang it with a beautiful blue bow. Her colors are kind of Mediterranean. I am so in love with these wreaths! I can't wait to show you the finished product. Let me know what you think.
